Inside the Sony VAIO EA24FM / W 14-inch laptop
Priced at most retailers at a modest $ 799, the Sony VAIO EA24FM / W laptop brings solid performance and a pretty special keyboard / touchpad to the party. It is a nice addition to Sony’s VAIO line of mid-range and delivers a robust processor with a fixed line of ports.
The processor is an impressive 2.27 GHz Intel Core i3 M350. This, along with 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3 RAM makes this incarnation of the Sony VAIO something to consider.
On the outside, this unit is a distinctive blend of efficiency and design. It is available in blue, pink, black or white. There is a silver grid of dots on the cover that a bit of a 3D effect and the curved lines give the whole package a sleek, smooth feel. Double hinge allows the upper eyelid to a greater extent than most comparable laptops open, so that’s another added feature worth.
Sony VAIO E-Series has long been turning heads over the use of the keyboard skins. This model is no different, as eye-catching laptop gets to show off a rather interesting color combination with these skins. They are available for just a smidgen under $ 20 and give your keyboard, elevated Chiclet-style sans number pad, a little extra dash of style.
The touch pad is also noteworthy. It is recessed and has a good quality texture, which means you can navigate with ease.
The screen is also impressive. With a 16:9 aspect ratio, 14-inch glossy LED backlit screen offers 1366×768 resolution and looks great with Blu-ray movies. The Blu-ray player, by the way, is included. Stereo speakers are nicely placed to provide good sound quality, too, so that’s another plus.
With a 500GB hard drive and HM55 Intel chip-set, the Sony VAI EA24FM / W is a nice addition to Sony’s popular E-series laptops. It is worth the price and makes for a great unit for just starting out.
