Is Best buy computer repair a total rip-off?

Should I look for a small business to repair my laptop? I was told the hard drive is corupt. Best buy wants 200 to fix it and 300 to fix it and save data.

Geek Squad’s a rip-off. I’m in the business and have proved them wrong quite a few times. If you dont know anyone who can work on your rig find a local computer tech. Will charge you less than 1/2 what the Geek Squad charges and do a lot better work. Try downloading and using Western Digital LifeGuard or Seagate Seatools and have those progs do a diagnostic on your hard drive. I just had a guy bring a Dell laptop over which was trashed. Spent an hour fixing it and charged him $50. You probably don’t need your OS reinstalled but its just that the Geek Squad tech was probably so inept he/she didnt know how to fix it.
