pc vs laptop wireless!?
I have a free wireless internet close to my home, but the signal is not very strong, i think because of the distance (200m) one time it reached 900kb/s, but sometimes it goes like 10kb/s or less, i use a Laptop Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro V3505, but i wanna use that internet on my pc. If i buy a wlan EW-7128G and put it on my pc will it go better? I don’t care about maximum speed of the device cause i will never get near it anyway, but can it “grab” more bandwidth than my laptop? if the laptop average speed is 30kb/s, how much will that be?
Thank you in advance
thank you, GFC
Assuming you’re AUTHORIZED to access that free wireless internet, look into wifi range extenders. Search online for “cantenna” (directional wifi antenna made from a can) and follow links to similar devices. I’ve seen them made from woks, metal strainers, foil-lined soda bottles, PVC pipe, etc. These might help you get a stronger signal, and are reasonably cheap and easy to build.
The amount of bandwidth you can “grab” just depends on the signal strength. Type of antenna, position of antenna, etc., will determine that more than laptop vs. desktop PC.
A little hint: Wifi signals usually pass through walls better than insulated glass windows, so don’t try aiming out a window and expecting better results. It’s usually just the opposite.
