Why did this happen to my Dell Laptop after i reformatted it?
I reformatted my Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop because I though it got a virus or something. Before, my Windows Experience Index rating was at least 3.0, with all the features form Vista home premium. But after reformatting it, it dropped down to 1.0. Aero turned off, and i cant even use the flip 3d thing. On top of that, i can’t even use the internet since it wont recognize wireless nextworks OR dsl/broadband networks (which was fine before). Did i do something wrong?
PS, i think i installed all the CDs that came with it. i’m not that good of a pc-tech.
Gawd help.
It sounds like you didn’t get the video driver installed correctly when you reinstalled Vista. There may be one more CD that needed to be found. But since you don’t have that CD, keep on reading.
If you can get on the internet from a friend’s machine, head over to Dell’s support site. I’ve included the link below. It’s best to have a USB disk (thumb-drive) handy to copy the files over to your computer.
Click on the Choose By Service Tag option and type in the number that’s located on a small sticker on your laptop. That will show only the drivers for YOUR computer.
It’ll then give you a few choices in pull down menus. Select your operating system and select a category to simplify the display. Use the Download Now links to get the files you need. You’ll need the video drivers to get your Windows Experience Index back up. You’ll also need the drivers for the network cards, both wired and wireless.
Copy those files to the USB disk and transfer them to your computer. Install the drivers and you should be up and going again.
Good luck!
